Rhine River women's cruise

What the client asked for:
Maria, the leader of a travel Meetup group asked me to book a Rhine River cruise for her group for August of the following year. She requested a specific cruise line, cruise, and date, with pre- and post-hotel stays in Amsterdam and Brussels or Zurich.
What we booked for them:
I worked with the cruise line to get requirements and prices, then contacted several tour companies about pre- and post-cruise hotels, transfers, welcome dinner, and activities because the cruise line did not offer what she was looking for.
Although we were making plans with the requested cruise line, other excellent cruise lines were advertising promotional offers that I thought Maria should consider. I researched and compared them all and provided her with two recommendations. She decided to change to one of the recommended cruise lines. I arranged for the local representative to meet with the group to present the cruise and answer questions.
I contracted with the cruise line, handled registrations, roommate matching, payments, and special requests from members, keeping the group leader apprised. I researched and arranged for a group air rate, hotels, tours and excursions, and travel insurance for everyone. Before their departure, I contacted the hotel managers to confirm rooming arrangements.
The group left for their 10-day trip and had a fabulous time. After they returned, I arranged for a meeting to hear about their experiences and recommendations.

Italy tour for two couples

What the client asked for:
Kathy, a new client, wanted to arrange a 10-day trip to Italy for herself, her husband Bob, and another couple, Steve and Marianne, who were close friends. They had traveled in Europe and had been wanting to visit Italy for many years. This trip would cover Rome, Florence/Tuscany, and Venice. The friends would meet up with family in Venice, while the client and her husband would return home. They had specific dates in mind during peak season. They wanted to stay in each location for several days and not move more than two or three times.
We discussed their interests, constraints, and budget. The friends were restaurant owners, so food and wine and a cooking lesson would be appealing elements of this trip. We discussed a range of options, both packaged and custom, from “hosted” self-guided tours, small groups, and larger escorted coach tours.
What we booked for them:
I researched a range of small and large group trips trying to match destinations, dates, travel style, and desired experiences. Although their preference was for a small group tour, the available ones during their dates didn’t quite match what they were looking for. I presented a number of available options that included most of what they wanted. We settled on one that was the closest match, even though it was a larger coach tour, and they had to adjust their dates a bit. They got feedback from friends that this particular tour operator was excellent and highly recommended. They loved the trip and the tour company and are eager to do another tour with them.

My clients wanted to see Boston and Cape Cod for an anniversary trip, with only a week to do it. They didn’t know much about what to see and do and wanted my recommendations. The only specific request was for a baseball game at Fenway Park, where their home team was playing that week.
What we booked for them:
Having lived in Boston for 9 years, I was able to give them recommendations for what to do and see in and around Boston, as well as a day trip to another city (Portsmouth, Portland, Cambridge, or Newport), along with Plimoth Plantation, Hyannis, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and the National Seashore and Provincetown on Cape Cod. After much back-and-forth with a local tour operator who would make the arrangements, we settled on a self-drive itinerary that included all of the above and had them drop their car in Providence RI for the return flight home. I recommended the hotels that I thought they would like, sent them lists of things to see and do and places to eat, and I contacted the hotel managers where they were staying and arranged for upgrades and anniversary gifts. My clients were thrilled with the result, got to see their home team at the game, and had a great time. And the best part for me was that I got to meet them when they were in Boston. What a treat!
